TOUR  IDEAS

At Argyll bespoke car tours we are not going to presume to know what you want to see or do on your tour. You may already have firm plans for your visit. On the other hand you may have no idea at all, so let us give you some suggestions that you may find useful in helping you to plan your visit to Argyll and the rest of Scotland. 


Argyll,

   Kilmartin Glen , North of Lochgilphead   is where the settlers from the Kingdom of Dal Riata (Dalriada) in the north East of Ireland  came, to expand their Kingdom into the land of the Picts. The incomers were known as Scotti and they eventually gave their name to this country.

  The glen has plenty to see with many Standing stones and Burial cairns dating back to the neolithic period and A ruined castle, as well as several places to eat and drink. well worth a visit.



Inveraray. one of the first Planned towns in Scotland.  Building work started  about 1747  using plans created by  William Adam, but it was his son John Adam who carried out some of the work after his fathers death.  Inverary Castle built at the same time  ( 1746-1789) is the Hereditary home of the Duke of Argyll and Seat of the Clan Campbell.  The castle has appeared in Downtown abbey (2012) and other TV programmes, its a must see for anyone visiting Argyll, especially if you are a Campbell.

  Loch Awe . The third largest of Scotlands fresh water Lochs lies to the North of Inveraray  and  it was from the surrounding area that Clan Campbell established its self as a powerfull Clan. Here you can visit St conans Kirk and Kilchurn Castle, as well as have lunch ( perhaps ) at  The Ben Cruachan Inn.   

 Inverness and the Highlands
 Travel through Glencoe, and Fort William  on towards Loch Ness. 
and Urquart Castle and maybe even spot the Loch Ness monster; take a trip to Inverness, the capital of the Highlands experience Culloden Battlefield where the last major land battle on British soil was fought.
 
Edinburgh,The Lothians and Forth Valley Never miss the chance to visit Edinburgh, Scotlands capital city. With its spectacular castle, numerous museums and not forgetting its world famous festivals and Tattoo, there's something for everyone here.  Outside the city Visit Rosslyn chapel made famous by Dan Brown in his bestselling novel The Da Vinci Code, or  visit the Kelpies, at Falkirk.

 As you might expect accommodation in and around the most popular locations - such as Edinburgh, Oban, Isle of Skye and Inverness - get booked up very quickly, so we suggest you make your  reservations prior to making any tour bookings.
